This week, we talked more about the American culture. After I read Bemused about his German guy who observed the people in America and wrote about all the weird things he saw. To us, it's normal but to other people from different countries might think the opposite. Just like if we went to a different country we've never been to, we would realize that it's way different from America's culture. This whole time, I thought America was the main culture and I thought it was the only way people lived. Then, I realized there's other ways of living and that the people who live in their own country, think its normal to live like that while us Americans, are the weird ones. It's interesting that this guy visited America and saw that jogging was unusual, because in Germany, they play sports as a group instead of jogging by themselves.
I've lived in Chicago my whole life, so I got used to the American culture. But now that I know there's other ways of living, I learned to accept others for who they are and where they came from.
I agree that it's really easy to think of American culture as the "main culture," especially if you've never left. That's why it's fun to go exploring the rest of the world! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good point that everyone shouold accept others for who they are and where they come from. Especially since a lot of what we do comes from other places all around the world.
ReplyDeleteI agree that since we're all different we need to be understanding of that and accept everyone.
