After reading Affluenza, I wasn't really surprised because I already knew materialism is a problem for us Americans. These days, we try to escape our problems by spending money and things, thinking it's going to make us happy. Instead of taking a walk or just relaxing, we go out and look for happiness in materialistic items. Sometimes we have to think and realize money can't buy happiness all the time. I'm not innocent either, because I'll admit, when I feel down or bored, I go to the mall and buy clothes, etc. I think that's going to make me happy, instead of hanging out with friends or doing something that doesn't involve spending. I could've saved so much money if I wasn't so materialistic.
