Today in class, we watched Dove "self esteem" commercials and saw how pictures in magazines or media, the models aren't real. They use photoshop to make these models and celebrities look better to how people expect them to look like. The media makes them look perfect so that we try to change ourselves to look like them too. This is how they get girls to buy their products like makeup by lowering their self esteem by making them feel ugly. These commercials and advertisements with models that are actually fake, lead teenage girls to be unhappy and even have body disorders. I even look at magazines and find really pretty girls and I feel bad about myself. This gets me to buy more makeup, change my hair and even stop eating to look skinnier. These ads are brainwashing people from a young age and if they had more confidence then they wouldn't be affected by media as much.

  1. That video we watched in class was unbelievable. I have NEVER seen something like that before. We see this everyday in movies, music videos, ads, magazines, billboards, etc., but we just don't see the PROCESS of it. Honestly, at the end of the video, the model didn't even look like how she did in the beginning of the video when she came in with messy hair and no make up on. It's crazy to see how the media completely distorts our perception of beauty. It's so sad.

  2. I was shocked when seeing the Dove video, to see how much they actually change the model's picture to look perfect. It didn't even look like the same girl in the end. I find it sad how the media does this and makes girls think they have to look that way as:perfect. In reality nobody looks perfect and girls should feel beautiful the way they are and not fall into what the media portrays.

  3. Cool fortune cookie pic. Glad that lesson made you think about it - the next step is learning to live healthy and accept yourself, love yourself for who you truly are. Let go of that media influence. Let the real you shine through!
